Steve grew up in Illinois and loved spending time with his grandparents in Maine. He loved sports from an early age, and enjoyed playing baseball especially. He studied industrial management at Purdue University, where he was also a proud Purdue cheerleader. By choosing Purdue, he began a generations long love and loyalty to the university. He left Purdue to pursue a career with Ryerson Steel, where he eventually met the love of his life. He was drafted for the Vietnam War and served two years. He had a long and very successful career at Ryerson. Retiring in 2010 to spend time with his family and enjoy the lake house he and Sue bought for their retirement. The lake house brought him so much joy, mostly because it was where friends and family gathered. Steve had his LVAD placed in 2013. At the time, his family hoped for 5-7 more years with him. It was a miracle and a gift that they were able to enjoy 11 more years with him. He continuously impressed and amazed the doctors and his family with his ability to bounce back no matter what health issues he faced. He was a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law and grandpa. His presence will be missed so dearly by all of his family and friends.

Steven Eric Flodberg, lovingly known as Steve, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2024, at the age of 77. He was born on May 11, 1947, in Northbrook, Illinois, and most recently resided in Somonauk, IL on Lake Holiday.

Steve was a man of many passions. He enjoyed playing golf, spending quality time with his beloved family, and keeping a close eye on his fantasy football league. He found immense joy in hearing about everything going on in the lives of his children and grandchildren. Steve cherished moments at the lake with his wife, Sue, and delighted in watching the Bears, the Cubs and his Alma Mater, the Purdue Boilermakers.

Born and raised in Illinois, Steve had an adventurous spirit. He spent memorable summers with his grandparents in Maine, creating cherished memories. Sports played a significant role in his life, with baseball being a particular favorite. Steve pursued his studies in industrial management at Purdue University, where he proudly became a Purdue cheerleader and developed an enduring loyalty to the institution that would span at least three generations so far.

After leaving Purdue, Steve began a successful career at Ryerson Steel, where he eventually met the love of his life, Susan Haase. They married in October of 1976 and enjoyed nearly five decades of unwavering love and companionship. Together, they raised three children: Lorayne, Eric and Edward.

Steve dedicated over four decades of his life to Ryerson Steel, excelling in various sales roles. In 2010, he retired, allowing him to focus on spending quality time with his family and embracing the joys of their lake house, a place where family and friends gathered as often as possible and made lifelong memories.

In 2013, Steve's resilience and determination were tested when he underwent LVAD surgery. Against all odds, he defied expectations and gifted his family with an additional 11 precious years. Steve's unwavering strength and positive spirit were a constant inspiration to all who knew him.

Steve will be deeply missed by his adoring family and friends. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a supportive father-in-law, and a terrific grandpa. His presence brought comfort and joy to all who knew him. Steve's legacy will forever be remembered for his ability to make everyone feel at ease and his unwavering love for his family.

He is survived by his sister, Nancy Schwartz; his wife, Susan Flodberg; his children, Lorayne, Edward (Kyla), and Eric (Andrea) Flodberg; and his grandchildren, Sam, Ellie, Avery, Charlotte, and Stevie Flodberg. Steve's memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Steve's life and honor his remarkable journey. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the LVAD department at Loyola Hospital in his memory.

Rest in peace, Steve, knowing that your legacy of love and resilience will forever be cherished by all those whose lives you touched.
