Playing golf, spending time with his family, keeping a close eye on his fantasy football league, hearing about everything going on in the lives of his kids and grandkids and enjoying the lake with Sue, watching the Bears and the Cubs.
Steve grew up in Illinois and loved spending time with his grandparents in Maine. He loved sports from an early age, and enjoyed playing baseball especially. He studied industrial management at Purdue University, where he was also a proud Purdue cheerleader. By choosing Purdue, he began a generations long love and loyalty to the university. He left Purdue to pursue a career with Ryerson Steel, where he eventually met the love of his life. He was drafted for the Vietnam War and served two years. He had a long and very successful career at Ryerson. Retiring in 2010 to spend time with his family and enjoy the lake house he and Sue bought for their retirement. The lake house brought him so much joy, mostly because it was where friends and family gathered. Steve had his LVAD placed in 2013. At the time, his family hoped for 5-7 more years with him. It was a miracle and a gift that they were able to enjoy 11 more years with him. He continuously impressed and amazed the doctors and his family with his ability to bounce back no matter what health issues he faced. He was a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law and grandpa. His presence will be missed so dearly by all of his family and friends.
Spending time with his family. And a good Bears or Cubs win!
