Merzier's favorite things to do was to cook and make sure all of his children were well taken care of. He was a man of his word and very handy around the house. No matter what it was, he would make sure he learned how to fix things
Merzier would not eat anything else but a special Haitian dish called Lalo. It is steamed collard greens with a mix of meats, with blended beans puree and white rice. He would always get upset whenever any of his children cooked his favorite meal without inviting him over.
One thing about Merzier, is that he would always have a job. He never complained about being tired but would sometimes give us attitude if we complained about being stressed from work. He would always says, "Just Thank God that you even have a job to help you survive. Think about all that God has done for you".
He loved nothing more than his children. They were his prized possession. He would speak highly of all of his children no matter what. Merzier traveled by boat to get to the USA from Haiti because of political unrest and poverty. He knew he would be unable to care for all of his 23 children if he remained in haiti. Merzier crossed the sea illegally to enter the United States where he met his wife and the family got bigger.
Merzier would always travel back and forth from Haiti, New Jersey, and Florida. Those were the only 3 places he would go due to his children being scattered. He would always make time for each and every one of them. Till this day we have no idea how he managed this lifestyle, but we're grateful.
Merzier had 23 kids; Kettly Decius, Nonfille Decius, Marie-Ange Decius, Marie-Michelle Decius, Irelande Decius, Charlesina Decius, Antoinette Decius, Tinese Decius, Eve Decius, Joane Decius, Rodney Decius, Papache Decius, Mamoune Decius, Isemela Decius, Meres Decius, Jenny Decius, Farah Decius, Kevin Decius, Keson Decius, Omar Decius, Erick Decius, Angele Decius, and Sarah Decius.
Merzier Decius, a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather, passed away on April 2, 2024, at the age of 86. He was born on July 12, 1937, in Haiti and most recently resided in Union.
Merzier had a passion for cooking and ensuring the well-being of his children. He was a man of integrity, always true to his word, and possessed remarkable handyman skills. No matter the task, he would eagerly learn how to fix things around the house.
Lalo, a traditional Haitian dish, held a special place in Merzier's heart, and he would express disappointment whenever his children prepared it without inviting him. He relished the flavors and the shared experience of enjoying this meal together as a family.
One striking aspect of Merzier's character was his unwavering work ethic. He never complained about being tired and would remind others to be grateful for their jobs, highlighting the blessings bestowed upon them by God.
However, Merzier's greatest joy in life was his children. His love for them knew no bounds, and he spoke highly of each and every one. Faced with political unrest and poverty in Haiti, he made the courageous journey to the United States, crossing the sea illegally. It was here that he met his wife Angela and expanded his family, eventually having 23 children.
Merzier's heart and life were multifaceted, as he divided his time between Haiti, New Jersey, and Florida to stay connected with his scattered children. His ability to manage this complex lifestyle remains a mystery to this day, but his children will forever be grateful for the precious moments he shared with them.
Merzier leaves behind his beloved wife, Angela Decius, and is survived by his 23 children: Kettly, Nonfille, Marie-Ange, Marie-Michelle, Irelande, Charlesina, Antoinette, Tinese, Eve, Joane, Rodney, Papache, Mamoune, Isemela, Meres, Jenny, Farah, Kevin, Keson, Omar, Erick, Angele, and Sarah. He is also survived by 27 grandchildren.
Merzier Decius will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to his work, and his vibrant spirit. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all those whose lives he touched. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
We'll plant real trees for you in Merzier's memory and display your contribution forever.
