Joan was a true survivor and lived through some tough times! She battled triple negative breast cancer and had been cancer free for over seven years. She also suffered from a rare eye disease that made her legally blind, as well as losing her hearing. No matter what she went through she toughed it out with a brave face and always found, the good and the fun parts of life. She was a true optimist! She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her!
Joan Josephine Montague, affectionately known as Joanie, passed away on July 11, 2024, at the age of 83. Born on March 7, 1941, in Oakland, California, she spent her later years residing in Portland, Oregon, where she left a lasting impact on all who knew her. Joan is survived by her husband Tom Anderson, her daughter Terry Montague Sauriol age 64, her son Gregory James Montague age 62, her three grandchildren, Ross Louis Sauriol age 38, Thomas Roy Sauriol age 36, Abby Joan Sauriol age 34 and great granddaughter Kit Audrey Sauriol age 6.
Joan was a passionate individual with a zest for life. She enjoyed capturing the world through her camera lens, and her love for golf and tennis kept her active and engaged. A true lover of music, she found joy in the melodies of Peter, Paul and Mary, Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, and Wayne Newton, often sharing these tunes with her grandson, Ross.
An avid reader and a dedicated mentor, Joan faced significant challenges with remarkable resilience. She bravely battled triple-negative breast cancer and lived cancer-free for over seven years. Even as she navigated the difficulties of a rare eye disease that left her legally blind, she remained an eternal optimist, often proclaiming, “It is what it is!” Her ability to find joy in everyday moments, whether it was enjoying halibut, spaghetti, cheeseburgers, or giving a toast with her favorite drink, The Cosmopolitan, she was always an inspiration to her family and friends.
Joan was not only a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother (GG), but also the life of the party. She cherished spending time with her loved ones, especially at family gatherings in Boise, Idaho, or at home with her devoted husband, Tom. Her favorite pastimes included watching classic television shows like Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and reminiscing about the comedic brilliance of Carol Burnett and Mary Tyler Moore.
Joan leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and strength. Her vibrant spirit and kindness will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
