He was known for his strong Christian beliefs and his unwavering faith in God and Jesus. His favorite quote, “You ain’t right, but you ain’t wrong,” perfectly encapsulated his humorous and down-to-earth personality.

In his leisure time, Jay loved watching football, particularly cheering for the Hogs, and indulging in his favorite foods, especially seafood and catfish. He enjoyed the classic charm of "The Andy Griffith Show" and found joy in movies like "Being There" and "The Great Santini."
