Zackariah Nicholas Spence “Zack”
November 23, 1982 – March 13, 2025
Zackariah Nicholas Spence, age 42, passed away on March 13, 2025, at Baptist DeSoto in Southaven, Mississippi, after a long and courageous battle with health issues. Born and raised in Memphis, TN on November 23, 1982, Zackariah was a man of resilience, humor, and deep love for his family, friends, and even people he barely knew.
He was the beloved son of the late Cheryl Lynn Gaines and James Dale Spence, both of Memphis, TN. He married Jessica McGill Spence on July 31, 2018, in Memphis. He was a proud father of Dalton and Addison, and a caring stepfather to James. He was also preceded in death by Jessica Lewis, the mother of his son Dalton.
At the time of his passing, Zack was living in Horn Lake, Mississippi. Known for his sharp wit and lighthearted nature, Zack was always joking, making people laugh, and finding humor in everyday life—even when others couldn't see it. He had a way of lifting spirits and bringing comfort just by being himself—while always keeping people on their toes at the same time.
Gifted with a natural mechanical ability and a curious mind, Zack loved working on cars, motorbikes, scooters, and anything he could take apart and rebuild. He also enjoyed electrical work, fixing things, and starting new projects—even if a few were still in progress. Always eager to learn something new, Zack never hesitated to lend a hand, whether it was for a close friend or someone he had just met. He gave of himself generously, with a heart full of compassion.
He is survived by his wife, Jessica Spence; his children, Dalton and Addison; and his stepson, James. He also leaves behind his brothers, Michael Spence and Timothy Gaines; his stepfather, Tracy Gaines; his nephew, Shane; and close cousins Sheena Wood and Leslie McMeans, along with many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Zackariah’s legacy is one of love, faith, growth, and enduring spirit. He touched the lives of many with his generous heart, uplifting humor, endearing foolishness, and unwavering strength. Though his time on earth was cut short, his soul lives on in the hearts of those who loved him. We find peace in knowing he is now at rest—healed and whole in the presence of the Lord. His light will continue to shine through the memories we carry and the love he so freely gave.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearance."
— 2 Timothy 4:7–8
