Wilma Freeman, known affectionately as Mrs. Western, passed away on November 11, 2024, in Chicago, Illinois. Born on February 28, 1932, in Kansas City, Missouri, she lived a vibrant life marked by her love for family, community, and the joys of everyday moments.
Wilma was a passionate cook, often delighting her family with meals prepared with love. She enjoyed watching the world go by from her window and keeping up with current events through the news. A lover of music, she found joy in the sounds of Stevie Wonder, Peabo Bryson, and Chaka Khan, among others.
Married to Samuel Freeman, Wilma was a proud mother and grandmother, leaving behind a legacy of love through her children Amari, Lashon, Miles, Malcolm, Adia, Alecia, Emerson, Gerard, Shelly, Breonna, Brandon, and Leah. She was the last surviving sibling of four, cherishing the memories of her family.
Wilma's fierce determination and thoughtful nature made her a pillar of strength in her community. She was known for her wisdom and guidance, especially to the children who often played near her home on 9137 S Carpenter Street, where she made countless memories. Her motto, “Ian studding you!” reflected her unique way of connecting with those around her.
A devoted Christian, Wilma's faith was an integral part of her life, influencing her interactions and the love she shared. She will be remembered as a grandmother to many, offering guidance and support to those who sought it. Wilma Freeman’s spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
