Willie Pearl Fortune, known affectionately as Pearl, was born on April 11, 1928, in New Albany, Mississippi, where she spent her life cultivating her passions and nurturing her family. A creative spirit, Pearl enjoyed crafts and found joy in reading, often surrounded by her beloved flowers and plants.
Her greatest delight came from cooking for her family and welcoming them into her home, where laughter and love filled the air. Pearl was a familiar face at Walmart, where she worked as a greeter for 17 years, embracing her role with warmth and enthusiasm. She often joked that she was finally being paid for talking, a testament to her vibrant personality and love for connecting with others.
Pearl was a dedicated mother and is survived by her children: Margaret Lipford (Billy Carl), Jim Fortune (Brenda), Bonnie Dodge (Mark), Jerry Fortune (Elaine), Kathy Windham, and Cindie Frappollo (the late Paul E. Frappollo). She cherished her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.
Pearl’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and a deep commitment to family. She was preceded in death by her son, Johnny Fortune, and her daughter, Janie Evans. Her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those she touched in her community and beyond.
