Obituario

William (Bill) K. Grant, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, partner and friend to everyone, left us on December 24, 2024. Bill lived a full life and he will be missed tremendously on earth.

Bill is survived by his son, Russ & Daughter In Law Michelle, Granddaughter Kayla (Jamie) Zerck, Grandson Trevor (Joey), Grandson Levi, Granddaughter MyKenzie (Garrett) Stoddard, Grandson Liam Thurman, Great Grandchildren Karsyn, Kamryn, Kellyn, Emberly, Ilya, Stetson, brother Ray (Opal), and girlfriend Sherry Roseboom.

Bill is preceded in death by his loving wife/partner of 20 years, Paulette, daughters Kim Rice & Katherine Maupin, his parents Raymond & Katherine, and his four sisters Kathleen, Joyce, Maureen & Diane.

Bill was born to Raymond & Katherine Grant on June 3, 1946 in Ione, WA. He grew up on a ranch near Sullivan Lake in Ione with his four sisters and brother. He graduated in 1964 and joined the US Navy with three other local boys. Bill went to bootcamp in San Diego and then training to be a Radio Operations Technician. He spent four years serving our country and was a very proud Navy Veteran.

Upon discharge from the military Bill worked various jobs in the Seattle area where he got married and started his family. Soon after his son was born he relocated his family back home to the Ione area. He worked at the Sunshine Mine for a short time in the Wallace area until he started at Lehigh Portland Cement in Metaline Falls in 1972 where he worked for 18 years until it closed down in 1990 as LaFarge. Upon layoff from LaFarge many of the workers went to college, Bill included. Bill received his Associates Degree for Diesel Mechanics from Spokane Community College in June of 1993.

Bill then worked with his lifelong friend, Kenny Maupin, with Maupin Logging Construction from about 1993-1997. Bill was a well rounded employee who drove truck, helped with the rock crusher and screening plant, welded on various machines but more importantly he never missed a “beer-thirty”.

In July 1997 Bill accepted a position at Seattle City Light, Boundary Powerhouse in Metaline Falls as a Hydroelectric Maintenance Machinist. This is where Bill fell in love with the love of his life, Paulette. While at Boundary Bill often filled in as crew chief as well. He was proud of the work he did at Boundary and the fact that he was able to work alongside his oldest daughter. Bill retired in 2003 and he and Paulette moved to Spokane soon after so Paulette could be closer to her grandson, Liam. Bill got bored in retirement as many do and took a side job plowing snow at the Spokane International Airport. This kept him busy for a few years until he retired for good.

Recently, Bill and his girlfriend Sherry moved to Ft. Mohave, AZ to live out their lives in the sunshine. We are sad to say that Bill only enjoyed this for a few short months before his untimely passing.

The family will hold a celebration of life on June 28, 2025 at 1:00 pm at his son in law, Monte Rice’s bar, The Triple Dog. This will be a potluck celebration to share stories and memories of Bills life. Please reach out to Michelle on Facebook for more information.
