William Emery Rockwood III, affectionately known as Bill, passed away on May 9, 2024, at the age of 85. He was born on October 30, 1938, in Springfield, Massachusetts, and spent his final years in Tacoma, Washington.
Bill dedicated 22 years of his life to the United States Air Force, retiring in 1979. Following his military service, he contributed his expertise to Lockheed Aerospace, working as a Missile Technician on the Trident Missiles Program. Bill was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence, living by the motto, "Your word is your bond," and believing that "it's hard to fly with eagles if you hoot with the owls."
In 1960, he married Geneva, with whom he shared a loving partnership until her passing in 2016. In 2022, he found love again and married Betty Sovereign. While Bill and Betty did not have children together, he is survived by his four children from his marriage to Geneva: Angela, Sonia, Gina, and Billy. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Jennifer, Lucas, Madison, and William, and was a proud great-grandfather to Emma, Quinn, Ted, Desi, EJ, and Genna.
Bill had a variety of hobbies that showcased his diverse interests. He was an avid gunsmith and muzzleloader, enjoyed woodworking, and found joy in reading, particularly about World War II and the Civil War. His love for traditional country music provided a soundtrack to many cherished moments. He also delighted in watching wildlife and history documentaries, as well as classic old western movies.
His memory will be held dear by his family and friends who will remember him for his kindness, dedication, and the many stories he shared. Bill’s legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.
We'll plant real trees for you in William's memory and display your contribution forever.
