The Deynes family mourns the loss of Wilfredo Deynes, who passed away in Bronx, NY on May 6, 2024, at the age of 72. Born in Moca, Puerto Rico on October 26, 1951, Wilfredo was affectionately known as "Willie" or "Jumbo" to his family and friends. His presence was one of strength and inspiration, and he could always be counted on by his loved ones.
Willie's life was marked by his unwavering service to his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1969 to 1972. His valor and dedication were recognized with numerous commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Following his honorable discharge, Willie continued his path of service as a Social Worker, after obtaining his Master of Social Work from Yeshiva University.
Known for his laid back demeanor and infectious humor, Willie's laughter and smile were his gifts to the world. In fact, one couldn't help but smile at his smile. He was a source of comfort and happiness, leaving a wealth of fond memories in the hearts of all who knew him.
Willie is survived by his loving wife Angela Deynes, children Wilfredo J. Deynes, Billie Y. Deynes-Borris, and Brandon K. Deynes, grandchildren Lucas and Lily Borris, adopted daughter Jasmine Casanova, "daughter" Kimberly Garcia, and his large, extended family of brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. His passing leaves a void in the lives of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross his path.
A lifelong fan of the Yankees and The Beatles, Willie found happiness in the simple pleasures of life, such as immersing himself in documentaries. His hobbies reflected his love for history, music, and the timeless joy of America's favorite pastime.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, May 15th, from 4 to 8pm at R G Ortiz Funeral Home in Bronx, NY. A funeral service will be held the following morning, Thursday, May 16th at Calverton National Cemetery, where Willie will be laid to rest with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, an organization that was close to Willie's heart and reflective of his lifelong commitment to helping others.
