Walter grew up with 9 other siblings. He was in the Royal Canadian Airforce at the tail end of WWII where he was a Navigator.

Walter loved nothing more than

His family. He moved with his wife, Irene to the US with his daughter, Catherine and was involved heavily in her life along with his grandkids. He was always available to take his grandkids to sporting events, cheering them on. Walter was also a very proud Canadian and loved to talk about his upbringing and his family. That is something you would learn very quickly about him.

Favorite sports

Walter was an avid hockey player in his youth. He actually had 3 false teeth from losing his real ones during games. While he was still residing in Canada, he was often found fishing in Cape Breton. He also enjoyed golfing, and golfed into his early 80's. Walter was a well-rounded man when it came to sports. He loved to watch all sports and kept track of many games. His favorite would have to of been watching his grandkids playing sports during their youth.

Obituario

Walter Frederick McNeill, lovingly known as Dad, Grandpa, Uncle Wally, and Walt, passed away on March 31, 2024, in Portland, Oregon, at the age of 98. He was born on September 10, 1925, in Pictou, Nova Scotia, Canada, to James Godfrey and Mary Catherine McNeill.

Walter grew up with nine siblings and had a deep love for his family. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Navigator towards the end of World War II. Following his military service, he worked as an accountant for General Electric, retiring in 1985.

One of Walter's proudest accomplishments was becoming a Navigator in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He married Elizabeth Irene Attfield on April 6, 1950, in Toronto, Canada, and together they raised their daughter Catherine Louise McNeill. Walter cherished his family and was always available to support them. He took immense pride in his grandkids, Bret James, Tyler Charles, and Natalie Louise, attending their sports events and cheering them on. He also loved his new great grandchild and was so excited to be able to meet her.

Walter had a passion for genealogy and spent much of his time researching his family history using Family Tree Maker. He was a proud Canadian and loved sharing stories of his upbringing and heritage. Walter also enjoyed various sports, having played hockey in his youth and golfing well into his 80s. His favorite pastime was watching his grandkids play sports and keeping track of their game stats.

In his later years, Walter resided in an assisted living home where he formed lasting friendships. He enjoyed playing Mexican-train dominos, Dime night bingo, and Wii bowling. He was an active member of St. Juan Diego church, attending services every Sunday.

Walter will be remembered for his loyalty, wit, and love for his family. He brought laughter to the lives of those around him and made lasting impacts on everyone he met. He is survived by his grandchildren, great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada.

A private funeral service will be held to honor Walter's life and legacy. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
