Virgie Neal Stanton, born on March 4, 1939, in Wister, OK, and most recently residing in Lawton, OK, passed away peacefully. She was the daughter of Addie (Lucas) McCarver and Travis McCarver. Virgie was the loving sister of Winona (McCarver) Bohannon, Bryan McCarver, and Robert McCarver.
Virgie had a passion for needlepoint, crocheting, and cooking. After graduating from Wister High School, she pursued higher education at Southeastern State University in Durant, OK, where she earned her Master's degree. She then began her teaching career in Lawton, OK, where she made a positive impact on the lives of countless elementary school students. Later, Virgie transitioned to become the librarian at Lawton High School until her retirement in 1994.
One of Virgie's proudest accomplishments was hosting school events at Lawton High School as the head librarian. These events often involved having Winona, Mark, and Anita help with food preparations.She also cherished any moment that involved her beloved husband, Jimmy Stanton. Virgie and Jimmy shared a beautiful marriage that lasted for over 50 years, tying the knot on November 25, 1971. In 2019, they joyously celebrated their golden anniversary.
Virgie is survived by her husband, Jimmy Stanton, and sister-in-law Carolyn McCarver. She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces Cheryl Means (Harold), Anita Clingan (Eric), nephew Mark Bohannon (Kathy), and their families. Virgie is preceded in death by her cherished sister, Winona Bohannon, brothers Bryan McCarver and Robert McCarver, nephew Keith McCarver, and great-nephew Daniel McCarver.
Determined, focused, and protective, Virgie impacted the lives of many through her teaching profession and time spent at Central Baptist in Lawton. Even after retirement, she and Jimmy collaborated with Cameron University and Southeastern University to establish scholarships for students in need. Virgie's memory will forever be treasured by those whose lives she touched.
