Venita Maria Briggs nie Gholston was born April 2, 1951 in River Rouge, MI to Harvey Gholston, Jr and Naomi Webb both of whom preceded her in death.

Baptized at First Baptist Church in Ecorse when she was young, Venita eventually taught both Sunday and Vacation Bible School. At her passing, Venita was a member of Promise Land Family Worship Center lead by Apostle Mundy. After some time, Venita graduated from Ecorse High School in 1969. While in attendance, she was a member of the volleyball squad and swim team. She attended Wayne State University in Detroit, MI before obtaining her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from AIU in 2006.

Venita married Samuel Briggs, Sr. From that union, she had three children and two bonus daughters. She moved many times over the years as Samuel was a soldier in the US Army. She enjoyed various hobbies including sewing, crocheting, reading, baking and playing games on her tablet.

Venita will definitely be missed. Her willingness to help at a moments notice, her giving heart and listening ear are unmatche. She always put others above herself, a selfless act of a wonderful mother, sister, daughter, and friends.

She leaves to cherish her memory the father of her children, Samuel Briggs Sr., of Leesville, LA; daughter, Veleda Briggs of Deridder, LA; sons, Samuel (Zahira) Briggs II of West Palm Beach, FL and Steven Briggs of Leesville, LA; bonus daughters, LaShawn Tellis (Andre’) of Harper Woods, MI and Yolanda Briggs of Detroit, MI; sisters, Helen McKinney of Emory, MS, Denise (William) Dennard of Novi, MI, Rosalind (Carlton) Williams and Belinda Gholston both of Monroe, OH; special sister/best friend, Carla (Connie) Jones of Oklahoma City, OK; brothers, Norman (Carrie) Gholston of Phenix City, AL, Dennis (Tanya) Frierson of Inkster, MI; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
