Valerie Denise Leaks, known affectionately as Val, was born on January 26, 1959, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She passed away on December 20, 2024, in her beloved city of Philadelphia, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love.

Val attended local schools and proudly received her high school diploma, a testament to her dedication and perseverance. Throughout her life, she was a vibrant presence in her community, finding joy in various activities. Val had a deep passion for documentary true-life television shows and adored soul food, often gathering with family and friends to share meals that celebrated her heritage.

Music played a significant role in Val's life, particularly R&B and Gospel music, which filled her home with warmth and spirit. She cherished spending time with her family, especially during game nights on Friday and Saturday, where laughter and love were abundant. Val was actively involved in her church community, participating in sponsorships through Narcotics Anonymous, which reflected her commitment to helping others.

Her travels took her to Jamaica and various out-of-state church functions and NA conventions, experiences that enriched her life and broadened her horizons.

Val is survived by her son, Rashad, and her beloved grandchildren, Shyla and Cairo. She also leaves behind her sisters, Shirley Catherine, Doris Kim, and her brothers, David and James, who will carry forward her memory with love and gratitude.

Valerie Denise Leaks will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and the joyous spirit she brought to those around her. She touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed.
