It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ursula Friede Molkentin on May 7, 2025, at the age of 91. Ursula was born January 31, 1934 in Bremen, Germany, to Johannes and Emilie (Nee Begemann) Brandt. She survived the turmoil of WWII, and spoke fondly of the childhood her mother provided for her even through war. Ursula met the love of her life, Norbert Molkentin, at a dancehall in Bremen. They married on September 4, 1954, and soon after left Germany. It was in Renfrew, Canada, an unfamiliar place in an unfamiliar country, that she began to build a life and family together with her husband. In 1958 they immigrated to Cleveland, OH and continued growing their family and building a beautiful life.
Ursula worked for many years as a Travel Agent at Europa Travel, and often returned to Germany to visit her family. As her children grew older, they joined her on these trips, which are now cherished memories for all who went along. Ursula was an exemplary mother and human being. She embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and an unending generosity that could be seen in her care for her husband, children, and grandchildren. Ursula donated her blood 219 times, often also giving plasma, over many years. She was given a commendation by the Red Cross for her contributions. She was also passionate about politics, volunteering at voting centers and spreading the word about politicians she believed in. She always spoke fondly about her invitation to the White House to enjoy breakfast with President Jimmy Carter in recognition for her efforts.
Later in life, Ursula enjoyed quiet days with her husband and spending time with her family. Gatherings would always feature her delicious desserts and a game of Mensch Ärgere Dich Nicht. She loved to knit and crochet, and often gave away beautiful mittens, hats, and doilies to loved ones and friends.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years, Norbert Molkentin; sons Oliver Molkentin (Kay), Thomas Molkentin (Theresa), and Mark Molkentin (Annemarie); grandchildren Natalie (Brett), Alexander (Casey), Emilie (Conner), Nicole (Ashley), and Max, and 5 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Ursula’s life will be held at a later date.
We'll plant real trees for you in Ursula's memory and display your contribution forever.
