Towana Louise Braxton, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on January 6, 2024, at the age of 72. She was born on September 10, 1951, in Washington, D.C., and most recently resided in Landover, Greater Landover, MD.
Towana was a dedicated and caring individual who found joy in giving back to her community. She worked as a Protective Security Officer at the Federal Protective Service, and she retired after 27 years of service with the International Trade Commission. She was known for her unwavering commitment to her work and her strong work ethic, often saying, "If I can drive there in a workday (8 Hours), then I'm going."
Towana had a deep passion for her faith and was an active member of Pillar of Truth, where she served as a Hospitality member. She found solace and inspiration in going to church regularly. She also had a love for music, particularly The Monkeys and The Beatles, and their songs brought her immense joy.
In her personal life, Towana cherished her role as a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her loving daughters, Monique Innis (Nicholas) and Lakisha Hamilton (Kevin), as well as her granddaughters, Aubria Prophet, Kamiyah Mack, and Kamani Mack. She also leaves behind a large and supportive family, including her sister, Sharon Johnson (Alvin), and her brothers, Turan Roy and Gregory Roy. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Jasper Faggot Sr., grandmother, Ida Lee Faggot, father, Frederick Roy Sr. (Marie), mother, Mary Roy, and brother, Frederick Roy Jr. She also had numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, great-grandnephews, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Towana's impact on the lives of others was immeasurable. She was always there for her family and friends, offering support, love, and a listening ear whenever it was needed. Her warm and caring nature made her a pillar of strength and a source of comfort to those around her.
In her Landover community, she was cherished and admired. She was actively involved and known for her contributions and kindness. Towana was well-loved and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A celebration of Towana Braxton's life will be held to honor her memory and the impact she had on the lives of others.
