September 27, 1971 - April 14, 2024
Tonya Cato, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on April 14th, 2024, in Sacramento, California, her birthplace and cherished home. She was 52 years old.
Tonya's greatest joy in life was her family. She was always the one to organize and host family events, cherishing every moment spent with her loved ones. Tonya had a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews, showering them with love and affection.
Born to Yvonne Johnson and Carlton Cato, Tonya was the cherished sister of Carita Garcia, Marie Little, Beatrice Cato, and Cassandra Little. Family meant everything to her, and she treasured the moments shared with her siblings.
In addition to her human family, Tonya had a faithful companion, a crazy little Chihuahua named Midnight. Wherever Tonya went, Midnight was sure to follow, bringing joy and laughter into her life.
Tonya's culinary skills were renowned amongst her family and friends. She played the role of chef with absolute passion, delighting everyone with her delectable creations. Her banana pudding was a favorite among all, and her kitchen was a place of love and warmth.
Although Tonya had many favorite places, her heart always longed for the street her grandmother raised her on, Omaha Street. It held a special place in her memories and brought her comfort and solace.
Nicknamed Tony, she was known for her infectious laughter and goofiness. Her hilarious nature brought laughter to those around her, creating lasting memories. Tonya had a motto that guided her life: "Don't let one thing stop you when you have many things that keep you going." She lived by this mantra, always pushing forward.
Tonya had faced cancer twice before, emerging as a true warrior each time. Her proudest accomplishments were meeting all her grandchildren and overcoming the challenges that life threw her way.
She leaves behind her children and grandchildren: Shamika, Shamlin, Unique, Bryan, Brandon, Aaron, Christopher, Brittany, Jordan, and the youngest Queen. Their lives were forever touched by her love and presence.
On a solemn note, Tonya's unexpected passing has deeply impacted all those who knew and loved her. Her absence will be felt profoundly, leaving behind a void that cannot be filled.
In honoring Tonya's wishes, please ensure that cellphones are turned off upon arrival to the memorial service. Respect was of utmost importance to her, and she would appreciate a serene and respectful atmosphere.
May Tonya Cato be forever remembered for her exceptional cooking, infectious laughter, and the love she shared with her family. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Please wear purple, black, or white to honor Tonya’s favorite colors.
