Timothy “Tim” Sullivan, a trailblazing figure in the radio broadcasting industry and devoted family man, passed away on December 20, 2024, at the age of 86. A resident of Rancho Santa Fe for over 30 years, Tim was a man of resilience, innovation, and passion.
Born in Los Angeles in 1939, Tim was the son of Hollywood screenwriter C. Gardner Sullivan. Although he grew up around the glamour of Hollywood, Tim’s passion lay elsewhere. After earning a B.S. in education from the University of Arizona and serving as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps, he embarked on a career as a college football coach. However, in his late 20s, he made a bold shift into radio sales, where his leadership and vision would leave an indelible mark.
Tim’s career in broadcasting spanned nearly four decades. Starting as an entry-level salesman, he quickly ascended the ranks to hold senior management roles at major broadcasting companies, including RKO Radio and Metromedia. In 1985, he founded Anaheim Broadcasting Corporation, where he successfully owned and managed several independent radio stations across California. His entrepreneurial spirit, combined with his coaching background, allowed him to inspire and motivate his teams to achieve excellence.
Away from the office, Tim cherished his time with his wife of 57 years, Nancy, their two children, Casey and Kelly, and his grandchildren. He found solace in the tranquility of horseback riding, the challenge of golf, and long jogs through scenic trails. An avid horseman, Tim often shared tales of adventure with his beloved horses, including his trusted gelding, Petey.
Tim will be remembered as a pioneer in the broadcasting world, a dedicated husband and father, and a man who lived with integrity and purpose. His legacy will live on in the memories of those who knew and loved him.
A private service will be held to celebrate Tim’s extraordinary life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to [charity of choice or relevant cause].
We'll plant real trees for you in Timothy (Tim)'s memory and display your contribution forever.
