It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Thomas Smith, age 72, of Chicago, Illinois, on April 2, 2025. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, known for his generosity, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family and community.

Thomas was born on October 12th, 1952, in Harvey, Illinois to the late Charles and Margaret Smith. He spent his life in the city he loved, where he built a career in construction and became a pillar in his neighborhood. His work ethic, determination, and friendly nature earned him respect and admiration from all who knew him.

A proud father of three, John was the beloved husband of Linda (nee Harris) for 50 years, with whom he shared a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. Together, they raised three children: Lashaun (Lisa), Gregory (Kim), and Curtis (Iftayo). He was also a cherished grandfather to six grandchildren, who brought him immense joy. His love for his family knew no bounds, and he was a constant source of guidance, encouragement, and humor.

Outside of his family, Thomas was an active member of his community, volunteering for local charities and mentoring young people. He had a love for sports, particularly Chicago Bears and Cubs games, and could often be found enjoying the city's food scene, particularly his favorite pizza spot. Thomas’ sense of humor and infectious laugh will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Thomas’ legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, as well as the countless lives he touched throughout his years. A private family service will be held, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in his memory.

Thomas will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
