Thomas "Otie" Riechers passed away on September 28, 2024 surrounded by family after a long battle with cancer. Otie was born on September 26, 1955, in Darlington, Wisconsin and called Belmont his home for his entire life. A devoted husband to Kelly Riechers, Otie was a loving father to his sons Brandon, Jeremy (Lindsey), Derek, and Tyson (Jenna), as well as his step-children Jacob Hanson and Ashley (Alex) White. In addition, Otie cherished being called 'Papa' by his 8 grandchildren Chase, Tyrann, William, George, Reese, Elle, Camden, and Otto.
Otie was known for his big personality, infectious smile, and his love for socializing with family and friends. His passion for sports was evident in his unwavering support for the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, and New York Yankees. Alongside his enthusiasm for watching sports, he enjoyed playing softball with his Rebel's Blue teammates, golfing, and playing cards with friends. He actively participated in the community, exemplified by his involvement with the Belmont Sports Boosters, coaching youth sports, and 20 years of service on the Belmont Fire Department.
Otie is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and his siblings Marilyn (Jerry) Schliem, Gib Jr (Martha), sister-in-law Kathy, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents (Gib and Marion) and brothers Bob, Terry, and Rebel. He will be remembered for his infectious laugh, being quick witted, passion for life, and the joy he brought to all those around him. His legacy of love and community engagement will be remembered by those who knew him.
For all who knew Otie, this won't come as any surprise, but one of his last wishes was that people celebrate his life rather than mourn him. We are hopeful everyone can join us for the celebration of Otie's life this Saturday, October 5th at The Sports Page in Belmont. The party begins at 11:00 am, just in time for his beloved Badgers, and has no ending!
Lunch will be provided from 12-3 but come early to help cheer on his beloved Badgers!
