Thomas John Engel, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on July 25, 2024, at the age of 86. He was born on April 12, 1938, in St. Paul, and most recently resided in Eagan.

Thomas had a zest for life and enjoyed various hobbies including gardening, golfing, reading, and spending quality time with his cherished grandchildren. He took pleasure in sharing his beloved Christmas village and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins. Thomas had a deep appreciation for music, with Glenn Miller, Tony Bennett, and Frank Sinatra being among his favorite artists.

However, Thomas's greatest joy came from spending time with his wife, Mary Lou, their children, and grandchildren. He cherished their presence and the moments they shared together. Home and the Rock Valley Farm on the combine held a special place in his heart.

Thomas's compassionate and kind nature was evident to all who knew him. He was a man of faith and a servant leader, always ready to lend a helping hand. Known by many as Tom, Dad, and Papa, he leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion.

Throughout his career, Thomas worked in the accounting field at IDS and American Express. He was respected for his dedication and achievements in his profession.

Thomas lived his life guided by the motto "Let Go, Let God." His unwavering faith and commitment were an inspiration to those around him.

Thomas is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Lou. He is also survived by his children Suzanne and Frank Zobitz, Cathy and Gene Abbott, Tommy, Liz and Tracy Hogenson, as well as his grandchildren Hannah Zobitz and Maxfield Rotert and their children Zoey and Xander, Frankie and Maddy Zobitz, and Beth Brady Ballis. Additionally, he is survived by Anthony and Katie Abbott and their children Ellie, AJ, and Henley, Kally and Ryan Venteicher and their children Skyler and Cayden, Charlie, and Tillie Hogenson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Betty Engel, and his sisters Margaret Mary Bannigan and Kathy Murphy.

Thomas John Engel will be remembered as a compassionate, caring, and gentle soul. His love and faithfulness will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
