Thomas Crain Sturtsman

February 28, 1953 – April 27, 2025

Thomas Crain Sturtsman, 72, of Moyock, North Carolina, formerly of Chesapeake, Virginia, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born in Altoona, Pennsylvania on February 28, 1953, Tom built a life defined by hard work, deep family roots, and a love for the outdoors. He began his career in 1972 in the warehouse of Senco Products and, through dedication and determination, rose to the role of Regional Manager by 1989. In 1992, Tom took a leap of faith and founded his own business, Fastening Systems, in Virginia Beach, which proudly continues to operate after 33 years.

Tom had a passion for hunting, fishing, and collecting silver coins and firearms. He found great joy in traveling, especially to the mountains of Pennsylvania and the quiet shores of Ocracoke Island, North Carolina. A lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Tom proudly wore black and gold no matter the season.

In 1974, Tom married his high school sweetheart, Betsy, and together they built a life centered on love, commitment, and family. He was a devoted father to Ryan, Tommy (Tiffany), and Kady (Eric), and a proud pappy to his grandchildren, Hannah and Taylor. Tom is also survived by his extended family, including his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law as well as nieces and nephews, all of whom he cared for deeply. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and younger brother, all from Pennsylvania.

Tom will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his wisdom, his love for the natural world, and the deep loyalty he gave to those he cared about. He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, kindness, and love that will live on in all who knew him.

A private family service will be held to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to help cover costs of medical expenses and aftercare arrangements.
