It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Taven Smith, who left us far too soon at the age of 19. Taven was a bright light to all who knew him—quirky, kind-hearted, and unapologetically himself.

Taven had a deep love for life’s small joys. He was a devoted fan of The Middle, often quoting his favorite character, Brick, and laughing at the quiet wisdom tucked into the show's absurdity. That same quirky charm that made Brick his favorite was something Taven carried within himself—clever, observant, and always a little offbeat in the best way.

When he wasn’t watching reruns or rattling off TV trivia, you could find him playing Fortnite with friends, headphones on, fully immersed and joyfully competitive. He had a knack for making everyone on his squad laugh—even in the middle of the chaos.

Taven also loved popcorn, and not just eating it (though he was very good at that). He took pride in perfecting the art of the perfect buttery batch at the local movie theater where he worked. It wasn’t just a job to him—it was his happy place. Whether he was tearing tickets or sweeping up after a late show, he did it with a smile and genuine love for the magic of movies.

Taven will be remembered for his humor, his soft-spoken intelligence, and the unique spark he brought to every room. He is survived by his family, friends, coworkers, and online gaming buddies, all of whom will miss him dearly.

In honor of Taven, we encourage everyone to rewatch an episode of The Middle, grab some popcorn, and take a moment to appreciate the little things—just like he always did.
