Obituary

Tammy Faye Maupin McKinley Obituary

Tammy Faye Maupin McKinley, passed away on February 28, 2025, just before her 53rd birthday, at Franklin Woods Hospital in Johnson City, TN after a long fight with numerous health conditions. She was born on March 1, 1972, to the late Margie Howell Maupin and Charles Larry Maupin.

Tammy’s life was marked by both struggles and moments of joy and resilience. She will be remembered for the good times she cherished with those closest to her. Tammy had a kind heart and a unique, quirky spirit that left an impression on everyone who knew her. She was fun-loving and young at heart, finding joy in the simple things and bringing excitement, adventure, and unpredictability to every moment, even the most ordinary, which kept life interesting and never dull for those around her.

An avid reader, Tammy found solace and joy in the pages of countless books, including her Bible and prayer. Although health and transportation challenges often limited her ability to attend church services, she attended many churches throughout her lifetime of many moves. She loved sharing "hallelujah moments" with others and was not shy to share—never meeting a stranger and openly sharing her prayers and testimonies for the Lord, a testament to her open heart.

Tammy's generosity and trusting nature often led her to give freely of herself to others, even at personal cost. Despite facing many obstacles, Tammy had big hopes and dreams. She wanted to use her struggles and testimonies to help others, hoping that her experiences could be a source of help, healing, comfort, and inspiration to those facing similar challenges.

Tammy is survived by daughters Emilie McKinley Howard and Alyssa McKinley, who were the lights of her life, and two grandchildren, Elijah and Isabella (adopted and raised by her brother Larry and family). She is survived by her brothers Larry (Tina) Maupin and Steve (Angie) Maupin; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents as well as her late parents, Margie Howell Maupin and Charles Larry Maupin.

Tammy was previously married to but separated from Rodney McKinley.

In accordance with Tammy’s wishes to make a lasting impact, she made a whole-body donation to advance medical research and education through Restore Life USA, a testament to her desire to help others. A celebration of Tammy’s life will take place on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Dino's Restaurant at 1:00 PM. The family invites all who knew Tammy to join in honoring her memory and celebrating her unique spirit.

Tammy Faye McKinley was an embodiment of adventure, resilience, joy, faith, and quirkiness—a bright light in this world whose unique spirit touched countless lives. Her legacy will live on through the lessons she shared about embracing life’s quirks and finding strength even in the face of adversity.
