Crime and mystery
Susan Byrd Grandle, born on February 16, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was the beloved mother of Jerri Byrd Groschick and her husband, Todd, and Robert William Byrd and his wife, JaLyn. Susan was also a proud grandmother to Robert Watson Byrd and cherished great-grandmother to Zurich Neal and Elliannah Byrd.
A dedicated nurse practitioner, Susan earned her PhD from the University of Michigan and her APRN from West Texas A&M. Over the years, she made significant contributions to healthcare by establishing a private practice clinic and playing a vital role in the opening of two hospices and several other healthcare businesses in Oklahoma City. Her compassion and commitment to her patients earned her the Excellence in Nursing Direct Patient Care award in 2013. She received the Oklahoma State award for Excellence in Nurse Practitioner Clinical Practice in 2015.
Susan was known for her intelligence, wit, and a fierce dedication to her work and family. She cherished her time spent at her houseboat on Lake Eufaula, where she loved to unwind and enjoy the beauty of nature. Sunday evenings were reserved for her book club, where she enjoyed the company of friends, and she had a particular fondness for Italian food and music by The Eagles, The Mama’s and The Papa’s, Queen, and Motown.
Preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Gary Bruce Grandle, Susan is survived by her mother, Evelyn Stephen’s Ghazi, and sister, Betty Nalley, and will be remembered for her motto, "Kindness is free." Her spirit and contributions have left a lasting impact on the lives of many, and she will be profoundly missed.
