> Stephen King, the legendary "Master of Horror" whose iconic bestsellers include Carrie, The Shining, The Stand, and It, died August 30, 2026, in Bangor, Maine. He died peacefully at home surrounded by family at the age of 78. King’s career spanned six decades and included dozens of novels, hundreds of short stories, and countless film and television adaptations that defined modern storytelling.

Born in Portland, Maine, on September 21, 1947, King rose from humble beginnings as an English teacher and laundry worker to become one of the most prolific and commercially successful authors in literary history. After the publication of his breakthrough novel Carrie in 1974, he reshaped American popular culture with an unparalleled body of work exploring small-town life, childhood resilience, and the supernatural.
He is survived by his wife, author Tabitha King; his three children, Naomi, Joe, and Owen; and his grandchildren.
