She loved reading novels, watching her favorite shows, and sewing. Her hobbies brought her joy and relaxation, and she enjoyed sharing her passions and lively spirit with those around her.
She also enjoyed good food, with oxtails being her favorite meal, a simple delight that always brought her comfort and happiness.
Above all, she cherished her family, especially her three beautiful granddaughters, Dahzhyrie Williams, Shanazha Cotton, and Audrey McCrary, who brought her immense joy and pride.
Sonya Denise Parks, a vibrant and loving woman, passed away on September 13, 2025. She was outgoing, kind-hearted, and full of life, bringing joy to everyone who knew her. She had a warm spirit, a generous heart, and an unwavering love for her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Governor Parks, and her beloved daughter, Shardawn McCrary.
She is survived by her loving mother, Willie Mae Gillyard, and her stepfather, Samuel Gillyard; her devoted son, Brandon McCrary; her cherished granddaughters, Dahzhyrie Williams, Shanazha Cotton, and Audrey McCrary; her siblings, Brother Tim Parks, Merkevia Gillyard, and Sister Shelleatha Smith and her husband Charles Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and friends who cherished her dearly.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
