Obituary

Sonya Michelle Higginbottom, affectionately known as Mick or Mickey, passed away on December 30, 2024, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, at the age of 58. She was born on September 20, 1966, in Racine, Wisconsin.

As a dedicated health care provider, Sonya devoted her life to helping others, embodying kindness and generosity in her work and personal life. She had an infectious sense of humor and was known for her ability to mimic people, keeping family and friends laughing for hours.

Sonya was a passionate jazz lover, often found listening to her favorite artists while enjoying her favorite meal, crab legs with butter. In her spare time, she delighted in putting puzzles together and framing them, taking care of her fish, and nurturing her plants. She cherished visits with family and friends, creating lasting memories with those she loved.

She was preceded in death by her father Arthur L. Higginbottom and Grandson Kieon Kyric Ross, both sets of grandparents, many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Kiara Ross, and is survived by her mother, Mary Edwards; brother, Hayward Norman; sisters, Carolyn Holmes and Katrina Griffin; niece, Akayla Galloway; and brother-in-law, Carlos Neal. She also leaves behind many Uncles, Aunts, Cousins and Friends. Sonya also had a close bond with her two lifetime friends, Chris Seidel and Monique Holton, and was a loving Godmother to Helena Moses, Demarious Nelson, and Shervnonne Perry and her children.

Sonya’s spirit and laughter touched many lives, and her generous heart will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
