Sherry Lynn Gonzalez, 60, of San Antonio, TX passed away on February 7, 2023 after a valiant battle with lung cancer.
Sherry was born on February 20, 1962 in Bristol, Virginia. She grew up in Maryland and Florida, but eventually settled in San Antonio.
Sherry went on to have one daughter, Jessica. When Jessica was born, Sherry decided to dedicate her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother. Sherry excelled at supporting her daughter through the many passions and difficulties of her life.
Sherry was truly passionate about helping people. She obtained her license as a Certified Nursing Assistant and began working as a provider for seniors at Family Service Association. She spent 15 years of her life helping seniors, and many of her clients adored her.
Sherry’s happy place was on the beach under the sun. She loved the ocean, the pool, and warm weather. She planned to retire in Panama City Beach, Florida. She loved country and rock n roll music. Sherry also loved animals and they were naturally drawn to her. She cared for her beloved dog Bear (who she treated like a son) until he passed away at 17 years old.
Sherry was a social butterfly. She could make lifelong friends anywhere she went. When her health still allowed, she enjoyed spending time at the local pub with her good friends laughing the night away. Through her years at Family Service she made many friends with her coworkers and clients who became like family to her.
Sherry was predeceased by her parents Roy and Beulah and younger brother Wayne. She is survived by her daughter Jessica and siblings Steve, Tommy, Cindy, and Kelly.
Sherry is one of the strongest women that most people have known. Despite all her tests of endurance throughout life, she never gave up without a fight, including her battle with cancer. Sherry always tried to make the best of a bad situation. She loved to joke, laugh, and have a good time with family and friends. We will all miss her courageous spirit and infectious smile greatly.
Her family would like to thank Sherry’s oncology team Dr. Neil Newman and Dr. Josephine Taverna, as well as the staff at Mays Cancer Center. They did an excellent job guiding Sherry through every treatment option available to her. Her family would also like to thank the incredible doctors, nurses, and patient care technicians at University Hospital for their amazing and compassionate care of Sherry.
