Sean Sharpe of Newark, New Jersey, affectionately known as “Smooth”, departed his life on May 1st, 2024. Sean was born on October 23rd, 1973 to his late parents Mattie Sharpe and Jerry Spate in Newark, New Jersey. Sean, grew up in the East Ward at 555 Ferry Street where he lived with his mother Mattie Sharpe and Sisters Gloria Sharpe, Janice Sharpe, Annette Sharpe, Malana Sharpe and Brother Dennis Sharpe. Sean attended Hawkins Street Elementary School and graduated from East Side High School in June 1990 with a Basketball Scholarship from East Side High School. He had an extreme passion towards Basketball and he played Center Guard in College in Des Moines, Iowa. After all, he was 6’3’ tall. When he returned home from college Geoffrey worked at Johnson & Johnson for 25 years and then later worked at United Airlines at Newark International Airport for many years and he retired in 2019. Sean, loved going to New York City to see all varieties of concerts, Broadway shows and basketball games regularly as if it was a 2nd Job. Whenever, he could not attend he would watch it from the sofa while eating an Italian Cheeseburger from one of his favorite spots Nico’s Pizzeria & Grill. Sometimes he would have Popeye’s Chicken and Devil Dogs snack on the side. If you knew him, you knew that Sean loved to eat and Thanksgiving was his Favorite holiday and he would be ready to throw down. Also, Thanksgiving was insurance for him to collect several dinner plates. I could hear him now saying “No pork on my fork!”. Sean was a vibrant soul when he stepped out. You would be able to spot him a mile away just because of the colors he would combine. He had a very unique and charismatic appeal with his style of dress. All of his colorful special tailor made suits made fashion statements. Some of them even came along with matching hats, belts, shoes, cane and even an umbrella. People were so infatuated with his flashy style that they would ask to take a picture with him and he would be happy to oblige. Sean was preceded in death by his Parents Mattie Sharpe & Jerry Spate. His Sisters Gloria Schwager and Malana Sharpe. His Brother Dennis Sharpe. Nephew Anthony Dixon and Great Niece Jayla Green. Geoffrey leaves to cherish his memory, Sisters Janice Mumford and Annette Sharpe. His Aunts Mary Ann Ware and Louise Hill. Nieces Cionna Sharpe, Jennifer Schwager, Tamara Green, Malana Sharpe, Denise Sharpe, Adrin Dixon, Bernecia Sharpe & Shanteerah Sharpe.
