Obituary

Ruth Lee Hayes, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and kindness that will live on in all who knew her.

Born on February 4, 1923, in Montgomery, Alabama, Ruth was the cherished daughter of Charles Blackwell and Joann Blackwell. She spent her early years in Montgomery, where she developed the strong values, faith, and compassion that would guide her throughout her life. In her early twenties, Ruth relocated to Ohio, where she built a beautiful life centered around family, love, and community.

Ruth was the devoted wife of her husband, John Michael Hayes. Together, they created a strong and loving foundation for their family. She was a proud and dedicated mother to eight children: Michael Hayes, Jeffrey Hayes, John Hayes Jr., Beanie Hayes, Veronica Hayes, Cathy Hayes, Creola Hayes, and Gloria Hayes.

Her greatest joy in life was her family, especially her 23 grandchildren, whom she loved deeply and unconditionally. Ruth’s home was more than just a house—it was a place of comfort, laughter, and belonging. She made sure every grandchild who walked through her door felt special, welcomed, and never alone.

Ruth was known for her sweet spirit and generous heart. She had a gift for bringing people together, often through her love of cooking and baking. Her kitchen was filled with the comforting aromas of homemade pies, sweet potatoes, peach cobbler, and her famous red velvet cake. Sharing food was her way of showing love, and no one ever left her home hungry.

Her kindness extended far beyond her family. Ruth was known throughout her neighborhood as someone who cared deeply for others. She welcomed neighborhood children with open arms, offering them food, warmth, and a sense of home. She was always ready to help anyone in need, never turning away someone who needed kindness or support.

Ruth Lee Hayes will be remembered for her loving heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, generosity, and unconditional love that will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
