Roy Wesley Hanks, known affectionately as Wes, was born on April 17, 1970, in Martinsville, VA. He passed away on August 24, 2024, in the same town where he spent his life. Roy was a man of many talents, working as a pizza delivery driver, a gemstone dealer, and even serving as a spokesperson for Burger King.
A believer in the power of truth, Wes often said, "When the world's on fire, the last thing standing is the truth." This motto guided him through life, reflecting his dedication to honesty and integrity. He was particularly proud of his contributions to the welfare of others, using his platform on social media to advocate for those who were abused and mistreated.
Wes was a loving husband to Juanita Susan Horton Hanks and a devoted father to his children, Rebecca “Raven” Hanks, Rachel Hanks, Roy Hanks Jr., and grandfather to Miracle Gardner. His bond with his granddaughter, who was born with Down syndrome, was especially strong; he played a significant role in helping her learn to speak and navigate life's challenges.
In addition to his family, Wes's impact extended to his community. He volunteered as an usher at T.R.A.S.H Ministries and often donned a Santa Claus costume at the Riverside Flea Market, bringing joy to children and adults alike. His funny, caring nature left a lasting impression on those who knew him.
Roy is survived by his loving children and grandchildren, who will carry on his spirit of compassion and humor. His legacy will be remembered not only through the lives he touched but also through his unwavering commitment to helping others in need. He was a proud Christian and a Pagan leader, finding strength in his diverse spiritual beliefs. Roy Wesley Hanks will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
