In Loving Memory of Roy Charles Daugherty
April 16, 1947 – July 15, 2025
Roy Charles Daugherty, lovingly known as “Grandpa,” was born and raised in San Diego County, California, to Charles and Vivian Daugherty. At just 16 years old, he met Grandma Haley—affectionately known as “Memaw”—with whom he shared a deep love and raised four beautiful children: Tina, Estella, Roy, and Perry. Although their paths eventually parted, Roy later welcomed a fifth child, Casey, with another partner. After she sadly passed away, Roy continued to raise his children with dedication and love in San Diego, California.
He built a proud career as a boiler operator, also known as a stationary engineer, working near Disneyland in Los Angeles. For a time, life led him away from his children, but in a beautiful turn of fate, he reconnected with them on Christmas Day in 1999—a moment that began a new chapter of family and togetherness.
For nearly 20 years, Roy made the long eight-hour drive from Los Angeles to Marysville, California, to spend Christmases and 4th of July holidays with his oldest daughter Tina, her children, and grandchildren. These were times filled with fireworks, barbecue, laughter, and love. He also visited Estella in Red Bluff and occasionally spent time with his sons Roy and Perry—but it was Tina and her growing family with whom he spent most of his holidays, year after year.
Eventually, Roy moved closer, settling in Oroville—just 30 minutes from Tina—so he could be near his family more often. He cherished this time deeply, being part of more frequent gatherings and family moments.
His final visit was on the 4th of July. Though he was very ill, he made the drive one last time to be with the people he loved most. Just days later, he passed peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, love, and devotion to family.
He will be missed beyond words but remembered forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
With love,
Nancy
