Ronald Ray McCleary, born on May 11, 1947, in Alamosa, Colorado, passed away on January 17, 2025, in Garland, Texas. He was the beloved son of and preceded in death by Clyde and Lela Aileen McCleary and sister, Peggy Marsden.
He was married to Sandy for 53 wonderful years, cherishing their life together and the family they built. Ronald is survived by his children, Jennifer McCleary and Becky and Paul Thompson; his grandchildren Shaun McCleary, Hailey and Joey Costello, Keeley Thompson, and Jayden Thompson; and his great-grandchildren Ashton, Sadie, Dallon, Zane, and Bella.
Ronald was a dedicated family man who loved nothing more than spending time with his wife and family. He had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying hobbies such as fishing, hunting, and scuba diving. Known for his remarkable work ethic, Ronald contributed tirelessly in every job he undertook, embodying the values he instilled in others.
He proudly served in the Air Force and was a commited volunteer with Operation Orphans, alongside his father in law Cecil, brother in law Rick, son in law Paul, and many other loved ones. Ronald also shared his love for sports by coaching baseball, impacting the lives of many young athletes, including Greg and Shaun.
A graduate of Garland High School, class of 1965, Ronald had a diverse taste in music, favoring the Gaithers and various oldies from rock and roll to country and gospel. He loved to sing with his aunts and uncles and you could easily pick out his base voice. He also hid the fact that he used to play the guitar, the organ, and even the accordion when he was younger. He enjoyed watching old westerns, especially those starring John Wayne, and had a particular fondness for wrestling—though he would often change the channel when his curious niece Brittany was around.
Ronald had a special appreciation for good food, with fish, seafood, and chicken among his favorites, and his heart always found its way back to his beloved Colorado, his favorite place in the world. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of love, hard work, and devotion to family.
