Obituario

Ronald Ellis Bredell, affectionately known as "Breedy," passed away on January 28, 2025, at the age of 87 in Fayetteville, NC. Born on November 25, 1937, in Philadelphia, PA. Ronald attended Harrin Elementary and Frankfurt High School and led a life marked by honor, strength, and laughter.
In 1956 after basic training Bredell was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division attending Artillery School and Jump School at Fort Bragg.  In 1960 Bredell was deployed to Okinawa 1st Airborne battle group became the 173rd Airborne Brigade in 1963.  May 1965 he was deployed to Vietnam where he was seriously wounded.

In 1968 Bredell graduated Ranger School as a “jump master” with Master Parachute Status obtained. In 1970 Bredell completed the Q course and in 1971, was assigned to the 1st Special Forces Group at Torrie Station in Okinawa. In 1972, he was hand picked to Taipei, Taiwan ROC. In 1974, was assigned to the 5th Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg to complete various top secret clandestine assignments where he retired from the military with an 24 year career with the military.


A distinguished soldier he received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Joint Service Commendation Metal and additional metals and awards. He was a proud veteran. He was part of the 1st Airborne Battle Group in Okinawa in 1960 and earned recognition as a heavyweight boxing champion in the Army, achieving Golden Gloves status. He earned multiple awards such as Honorary Lieutenant Colonel Aid-de-camp in the Alabama State Militia, Honorary Detachment Commander in the 7th Psychological Operations Group, the Parachute Wing Award, as well as the Outstanding Service Award by the Republic of China. Ronald’s legacy includes becoming an honorary member of the Triple Nickels.

Widowed by Dorothy Jean Bredell, he is survived by his children: Mike, Gregory, Kenneth, Andre, Marc, and Denise Bredell. He also leaves behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren who brought joy to his life.

Ronald was known for his intelligence and humor, often sharing his favorite saying, “There was nothing that blew your mind like getting shot at!” He held his family together, leaving a lasting impact on their lives with his unwavering support and love. His remarkable life will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
