Rolland Henry Roth Jr., known fondly as Randy, Papa, and Chief, passed away on November 3, 2024, in Cibolo, Texas. Born on October 10, 1960, in Port Hueneme, California, he spent his life dedicated to his family and his country.
Randy proudly served 23 years, 6 months in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant. He continued his career in civil service as a Deputy Division Chief for Small Arms and Munitions. Renowned for his leadership and mentorship, Randy encouraged those around him to excel in their careers, leaving a lasting impact on many.
A man of many interests, he found joy in jamming to rock music. He loved dancing with his wife, Rolanda, in the living room and could often be found working on his motorcycles or gunsmithing. Randy was a devoted family man who cherished watching his children and grandchildren and enjoyed tinkering with their belongings. His favorite pastimes included target shooting, building computers, and savoring Jessica’s homecooked meals and Grammy's fried chicken.
Randy’s personality was defined by his empathy, honesty, and kindness. He was a true animal lover and had a unique trait of being red-green colorblind. Randy had an aversion to the sound of others eating. He often turned the volume up on the TV as conversations grew louder. His love for nature brought him peace, and he thrived in the great outdoors.
Randy is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Rolanda; children Jessica (Matthew) Chappell, Kyle (Virginia) Roth, Sarah (Jerrad) VanGeest, and Rebekah (Nathan) Roth; and grandchildren Maddie (Tyler), Aaron, Caleb, Eliana, Kota, KJ, Valerie, Eli, Adaline, Noah, and Mia. He is also survived by his mother, Joan; sister, Donna (Kent) McCarthy; and a host of aunts, uncles, and friends. Randy was preceded in death by his father, Ron, and granddaughter, Hailee.
A Christian man, he lived by the motto, "It's not okay, but it's all gonna be alright," and often reminded those around him to "lighten the hell up." Rolland Henry Roth Jr. will be deeply missed by all who knew him, especially for his unwavering love for family and his infectious spirit.
The funeral services will be held at 1245 and we will be escorted to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetary for a Military Honors Service. We invite everyone to the VFW in Schertz afterwards where we will have food and refreshments.
