Roland Wayne Williams, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on April 4, 2024, at the age of 65 at his residence in Painter, Va. He was born on May 26, 1958, in Salisbury, MD, to the late Agnes (Joseph, Sr.) Sturgis and Roland Spence.
Roland had a zest for life and found joy in simple pleasures. His favorite hobbies included fishing on the boat with family and friends, cooking delicious meals on the grill for his loved ones, hunting, playing dominos and shooting pool. He had a special love for chicken and fish, which he enjoyed preparing and savoring. Roland was also an avid gospel music enthusiast, finding solace and inspiration in its melodies.
In 1993, Roland gave his life to Christ, which became a turning point in his life. He remained devoted to the Lord ever since. He was known for his talent in playing the guitar, and he would patiently teach his children to sing until they got it right.
Nothing brought Roland more joy than spending time with his family. His favorite place in the world was fishing on the water, where he could make cherished memories with his loved ones. He enjoyed watching westerns and the Sci-fi channel on television and was a passionate Eagles fan of football.
Roland was known by many as "Peanut," a nickname that reflected his warm and friendly nature. Throughout his life, he held various professions, including working for Nottingham Brothers Farm and Snyder Farm as a young child. He also worked as a chicken catcher and live haul truck driver for Perdue Farm for 20 years in total. Later, he worked at Branscome Construction for another 20 years where he then retired, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication.
Roland is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Christine Denise Williams. He leaves behind a cherished legacy through his children: Shanika Williams (Tucker) of Greenville, NC; La'Toya (Jermaine) Handy of Laurel, DE; Teonda Williams (William) of Parksley, VA; Roshika Williams of Onancock, VA; Roland (Bobbie) Williams of Painter, VA; and Rykia Williams of Richmond, VA. Grandchildren: Makhi, Zariah, Nyuel, Andrew, Teyonna, William, Lundyn, Xavier, Seven, Ja'Zavies, Nevaeh, Amyra, Ja'Nyiah, Jeremiah.
He is also survived by four sisters: Wanda Williams of Belle Haven, VA; Delores (Ray) Melbourne of Westover, MD; Wilda Spence of Wilmington, DE; and Centra (Trent) Dashiell of Salisbury, MD. Additionally, Roland is survived by four brothers: Allen (Lucille) Williams, Edward (Virginia) Williams, and Ronald (Wanda) Spence, all of Salisbury, MD, and Joseph (Diane) Sturgis of Nassawadox, VA. His uncle David Sr. (Mildred) Williams of Salisbury, MD, and a host of neices, nephews, cousins, and friends also mourns his loss.
Roland was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Decarlo Jones, a sister Sharon Williams, a grandson Zashon Williams, a uncle James "TT" (Lisa) Williams, a aunt Gertrude (Hoarse) Kelley, and special fishing buddies: Thomas "Cheetah" Johnson and Joseph "Joe" Savage.
Roland Wayne Williams will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His love for his family, dedication to his faith, and zest for life will forever remain cherished memories in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
