Rodney was inducted in the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.

Rodney served in Vietnam from 1967-1969 two days short of two years. He was awarded two bronze service medals and a combat infantry badge.
Rodney Dale Thompson formerly of Coralville passed away at Legacy Point Senior Living on October 22, 2024 after a long illness. He was born to Geraldine Douglass (Coblentz) in Iowa City, Iowa. He grew up in Coralville and attended Coralville Central Elementary, Southeast Jr High in Iowa City and Iowa City, City High. He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Henry, and his six grandchildren, Kenneth “Tommy” Martin, Austin Funk, Nathan Funk, Katlyn Thompson, Sabrina Thompson, and Megan Thompson, all of Kentucky, and his siblings David Thompson of Arizona, Hellen Coblentz and Arlene Schreiber of Iowa. He was proceeded in death by his mother, his son, Paul Scott Thompson of Kentucky, and his twin brother, Rick “Shane” Thompson, his sister, Mary Ellen Madden, and brother DeWayne Coblentz.
