His pioneering work earned him a place on the cover of the Society of Industrial Microbiology publication, highlighting his impact in the field. Rod was a committed Boy Scout leader, guiding and inspiring young men with his knowledge and love for the outdoors. His resilience was astounding, as he survived multiple heart attacks and other life-threatening incidents over the years. He tragically lost a hand during a Civil War reenactment, yet he continued to pursue his love of history with courage and determination. Rod was truly a one-of-a-kind individual, a loving father, husband, and friend whose life was defined by love, strength, and a boundless curiosity for the world around him.

Roderick "Rod" Bulley II, a cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away suddenly at the age of 77, surrounded by his loving family.

Rod was a dedicated and passionate microbiologist, a career he embraced with curiosity and commitment before retiring. For 56 years, he shared a loving marriage with his beloved wife, Gayle Bulley. Together, they built a family full of warmth, love, and laughter, raising six children: Jennifer DeLozada, Jessica Kern, Heather Elliott, Shauna Carroll, Christopher Bulley, and Justin Bulley. Rod’s legacy also lives on in his 17 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, who brought him endless joy and pride.

As a brother, Rod was dearly loved by Peter, Michael, and Eileen Bulley, sharing countless memories and lifelong bonds with each of them.

Beyond his career and family, Rod had a deep love for life and learning. He enjoyed basketball, gardening, history, and was especially passionate about Civil War reenactments, which allowed him to bring history to life. An avid foodie, Rod found joy in exploring flavors and sharing meals with loved ones. He was a member and chaplain of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Stonewall Jackson Chapter 9 where he served with compassion and dedication. He also served as a lifetime member of Amvets post 18, American Legion post 21 and VFW post 2123.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) organization, Stonewall Jackson, chapter 9, reflecting Rod's enduring commitment to the community he so deeply cared for.

Rod’s warmth, humor, and generous spirit will be deeply missed but remembered always by those who had the honor of knowing him.
