Robert Morris Thomas lll born on February 16, 1946 to the late Robert Thomas Jr. and Alma Thomas in Philadelphia. He was raised in the Strawberry Mansion section of Philadelphia with his two beloved Sisters, Patricia Garnett (Philadelphia) and Rebecca Kemp (White Plains, NY). He has two other Siblings in Los Angelos, California, Robin Thomas and Brian Jay Thomas.
He attended the Catholic Church on Broad and Diamond St where he served as an Alter Boy. He remained a life long Catholic and a believer of the Most High.
Robert was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System until his senior year in high school. He attended Macintyre/Walton Elementary, Fitz Simon Junior High School and Edison High School for Boys, where he graduated. After High School he traveled to Los Angelo’s California to live with his Father and to search out better career opportunities. He wanted to become an Actor and a professional race car driver. He loved fast exotic looking cars.
During his high School years he met Rebecca Boyd whom he dated, and from that union they were blessed with a Son, Micheal Boyd. When he came back from California he was drafted in the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War from December 21,1965 to December 12, 1967. He received a Honorary Discharge. Edison High School lost the largest percentage of black men in Philadelphia.
In 1994, he worked for Health Partners where he met and dated Tonya Trent. And from that union they were blessed with a Son, Bryce Trent-Thomas
Robert also had a love for tennis where he won many tournaments. He also worked for Tastykake for numerous years where he became the first black delivery driver. Robert was also the first black man to do Fencing at Edison High School.
Robert was known for his love of fashion. He always had an eye for unique fashion trends and outerwear. In the early 2000’s he worked for a well known high end men’s shoe store in Center City, which is why his shoes were unique and one of a kind. He stood in his own lane with confidence. Along with high fashion he had to have a luxury car to go with the look as well. He drove one until his death.
He was an avid reader and writer with a love for both. He loved big dogs that he owned for many years.
Robert is survived by two Sons, Micheal Boyd and Bryce Trent-Thomas, one Granddaughter Brittany Boyd, one Brother Brian Jay Thomas, three Sisters Patricia Garnett, Rebecca Kemp and Robin Thomas, three Great Grands Trinity, Brooklyn, Micheal and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and friends.
Robert lived a full life and will be greatly missed.
