Robert was a Trustee at Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He loved his Church and they Loved. He was everybody's "Uncle Robert"! To his Nieces and Nephews he was the Funniest Man on Earth! He had jokes and old saying for days. He could make anybody laugh!

Obituario

Robert Lee Ray, beloved by all who knew him, passed away on June 29, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on June 29, 1946, in Robeson County, to the late Sam Lesane & Eula Mae Ray. Robert spent most of his life in Saint Pauls, NC.

Robert was preceded in death by his Parents, one daughter Keyha Ray, two brothers, Arelister McBryde and Alex Junior Ray, and three sisters, Maggie Winstead, Juanita Jones, and Hazel Fowler.


Robert had a passion for baseball, first as an player, then umpire and later as the announcer for the Tri County Baseball League. He loved nothing more than watching the World Series and cheering for his favorite teams. At baseball games, he always made sure to grab his favorite food - a leg quarter sandwich.

In addition to baseball, Robert had a deep appreciation for music, particularly quartet music and Southern soul. He could often be found singing along to his favorite bands and musical artists.

Robert dedicated many years of his life to Dixie Yarns, where he worked for 30 years. After leaving Dixie Yarns, he continued his career at Fayetteville State University until his retirement.

Family meant the world to Robert. He adored his children and grandchildren, and they brought him immeasurable joy. He is survived by his spouse, Bonnie Ray, and his children Bridgett Glover (Gary), Roderick Johnson (TaMitrice), and Braderick Ray (Monica) and. He leaves behind 17 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, one brother Willie J. Ray, and two sisters, Stella Shaw and Minnie Grimes. His best friend Fred Scott . His caretakers: Perry Sutton & Teresa Ray, and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Family and Friends.

Robert was a beloved member of Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee, a member of the male chorus, and even as the janitor until his health declined. He had a vibrant personality and was affectionately known as "Uncle Robert" to everyone at church.

Robert had a natural gift for making people laugh. To his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, he was the funniest man on earth, always armed with jokes and old sayings that could brighten anyone's day. He had an infectious spirit that touched the lives of all those around him.

In addition to his involvement in the church, Robert was also a member of The Men Fellowship of Robeson County, where he made lasting contributions to the community.

Robert Lee Ray will be deeply missed by his loving family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His memory will forever remain in our hearts, and his laughter will continue to echo in our souls.
