Richard Irving Sargent, known affectionately as Dick, passed away on January 4, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on May 2, 1939, in Jackson, Michigan, he remained a beloved member of the Jackson community throughout his life.
Dick retired from Consumers Power after 42 years of employment as an engineer tech. He was also a proud Army veteran who dedicated a significant part of his life to providing for his family. He cherished his role as a husband to Marilyn (Clifton) with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. Together, they raised three children: Russell (Kim) Sargent, Laura (BJ) Fick, and Joel Sargent. Dick’s legacy continues through his grandchildren, Josh Hopkins, Jaime (Brian) Steele, and Cheyenne Sargent, as well as great-grandchildren, Toby, Jaden, Colin and Samera.
An individual who appreciated the simple pleasures in life, Dick found joy in maintaining his home and property, boating, and spending quality time with family. Known for his quiet demeanor, he was a man of few words but was always a good listener, making a positive impact on those around him. His penchant for dessert was well-known; he often joked that he only had dinner so he could enjoy his favorite sweet treats afterward.
Dick took great pride in his family and meticulously kept vehicles and machinery, considering them among his proudest accomplishments. He was also active in his community, lending support to the Jackson Interfaith shelter, embodying his commitment to giving back in the name of his Lord and Saviour.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother James (Willa) Sargent, sister in law Marg (Barry) Cockerill, as well as numerous nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ona (Moss) Sargent, Leona (Richard) Small, and Crystal (Patrick) Newman.
He will be remembered for his quiet strength and dedication to family. His favorite place in the world was his home, where many cherished memories were made.
Visitation will be held at Hamptons Funeral home. Date and time to be determined.
