Richard Bernard Dorsey Sr., also known as Rico, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2024, in his hometown of Baltimore, MD. He was born on March 1, 1952, to proud parents Herman and Grace Dorsey.
Rico was a beloved member of the Baltimore community, where he had resided for his entire life. He was known for his vibrant personality, impeccable fashion sense, and his love for making money. Rico took great pride in his appearance, always donning his expensive, flashy suits that perfectly matched his crocodile or alligator skin shoes and his signature Kangol hat.
Before his unfortunate disability in 2000, Rico worked in the health field and made significant contributions to his profession. However, his real passion lay in his role as the sole owner and operator of a store that he ran from his apartment. He became the go-to convenience store for the residents of his apartment building, providing them with essential supplies and a friendly face.
Rico's love for his family knew no bounds. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for his three sons, Brian, Richard, and Andre, and his daughter Raichelle, affectionately known as Ro. He was immensely proud of his five granddaughters, Shamia, Dawtira, Tamira, Arteesha, and Kennedy, as well as his two grandsons, Shawn and Arthur. Rico was also blessed with eighteen great-grandchildren, with another on the way.
In addition to his immediate family, Rico is survived by his sisters, Florence and Marietta, and his brothers, George, also known as Butch, and Douglas. He was also surrounded by a large extended family, including nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends, such as Mr. Butch.
Rico will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality and his warm and caring nature. He had a way of making everyone feel loved and accepted. His impact on the lives of those around him was immeasurable, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A private memorial service will be held to honor Rico's life and celebrate the joy he brought to others. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a local charity in Richard's memory.
Rest in peace, Rico. You will forever live on in our hearts.
