Rella Elizabeth Rosboro was born and raised in San Francisco, the eldest of two children of Webster Rosboro, Sr. and Elizabeth Rosboro. She shared a close bond with her younger brother, Webster Jr., who preceded her in death just six months before her own passing. Following the loss of her father, her mother Elizabeth, married James Tate, and together they raised a blended family that included Angela and James (Jimmy). Growing up together, they created fond memories, and built a lifelong bond rooted in love.
Rella accepted Christ at an early age and was a longtime member of Paradise Baptist Church in San Francisco. After moving to the East Bay, she joined Mount Calvary Baptist Church, where she remained spiritually grounded and connected to her faith community.
A product of San Francisco public schools, Rella went on to earn her degree from San Francisco State University. She began her career as a high school teacher, but her sharp mind and natural instincts for strategy and detail led her into the field of finance. Over the course of her career, she worked at Lehman Brothers and later at Lam & Associates, where she made an indelible impact before retiring. Known for her professionalism, precision, and gift for problem-solving, she earned the lasting respect of her colleagues.
Rella had a remarkable gift for connecting people to solutions. Whether someone needed a job lead, researching a complicated medical condition, or navigating a bureaucratic system, she figured it out. Her network was wide, and her follow-through was unmatched. She was who you called when you needed something handled. She didn’t boast about her ability to get things done, she simply did it.
But perhaps her most lasting legacy is the care she gave to her family. Rella was a constant and devoted daughter. She provided dedicated support to her father, James Tate, during his final years, and later became the steady hand and heart in caring for her mother, Elizabeth Rosboro Tate, now 102 years old. That care was never done out of obligation, it was a reflection of her deep love and sense of duty.
She was a present and loving aunt, active in the lives of her four nieces, Kristin, Ashia, Kira, and Alexandrya; her great-nephews Menelik, Mansa, and Trey. She remained close to her siblings throughout her life, offering wisdom, encouragement, and unwavering support.
Rella also had a deep love of politics and current events. She subscribed to The Wall Street Journal, and she could hold an informed conversation on just about any topic. She was sharp, well-read, never short of an opinion, and she always made sure she had the facts to back it up.
She is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Rosboro Tate; her brother Jimmy; her sister Angela; her nieces Kristin (Paul), Ashia, Kira (John), and Alexandrya; her great-nephews Menelik, Mansa and Trey; her sister-in-law, Latonya Rosboro; and a wide community of extended family and close friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, Webster Rosboro Sr.; her brother, Webster Rosboro Jr.; and her father, James Tate.
To know Rella was to experience a rare kind of loyalty, insight, and care. She was a woman of grace, brilliance, and boundless compassion. Rella’s legacy lives on in every life she touched, every connection she made, and every act of love she so freely gave.
