Regina Ruth Brown was born to Eva Jean and James Brown on April 17, 1959 in Chicago, IL. She was the third of the five "Brown babies," as they are called. As a child, she attended Cook Elementary School, and eventually graduated from Calumet High School in Chicago. In the early 1980s, Regina went on to receive her Associates degree in Early Childhood Education from Kennedy-King College with a focus on Special Education. (Insert more career history).
Regina was a superb roller skater, having showcased her prowess for decades at Markham Skating Rink, Glenwood Roller Rink, and The Rink in Chicago. She was also an incredible and graceful dancer, having captivated audiences as a youngster in Modern Dance at Calumet High School in Chicago, and later throughout her adulthood as a fabulous Chicago stepper. Regina was also quite the trendsetter in terms of fashion and beauty, always turning heads with her classy threads, immaculate hairstyles, and overall unique sense of style. She also had a penchant for fast, powerful cars, having owned a Camaro Z28 and Pontiac Firebird Formula as a young woman, and a Dodge Durango with a V8 Hemi later in life. During her retirement, Regina was the queen of DIY, from hairstyling to landscaping and interior design. She was a self-taught hairstylist who created and styled wigs of various styles and colors, a highly skilled carpenter who designed and installed custom chair railings and wanescoting, a cement mason who mixed and paved her own concrete stairs and walkways, an electrician who installed chandeliers and light fixtures, and a landscaper and gardener who uprooted and replanted shrubs, trees, and flowers, all to her personal taste and for her enjoyment.
Regina was preceded in death by her daughter, Chimere Lashae Jones (1992), her father, James Brown (1994), and her mother, Eva Jean Brown (1999). Regina is survived by her three sons: Cedric, Ra'Mon, and Brian; her grandson, Kairo; her sisters: Sheila, Karen, and Sharronne; her brother, Dexter; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Regina loved God and her three sons more than anything in the world. She committed her life to her children and conferred with them about everything. She would always say "we are a team, we make decisions as a team." She made it a point to ensure that the boys she raised to be men felt heard and valued. She was a master teacher, often saying "I know exactly how each of my children learn," and expertly, she taught them distinctly according to their strengths and personalities, equipping each of them with the unique tools they would need to thrive as they grew into manhood. She also made it a point to ensure, more than anything else, that her sons knew God deeply. She was a minister to her children, demonstrating to them unshakeable faith and trust in God, the significance of worship, the understanding and application of the Word, and the power of intercessory prayer. Even in her silence was she yet teaching.
We'll plant real trees for you in Regina's memory and display your contribution forever.
