Raymond Francis Crawford, known affectionately as Ray, passed away on October 22, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on November 12, 1946, in Elnora, New York, he spent his early years in the beautiful surroundings of the Adirondack Mountains, a place he cherished throughout his life. Ray graduated from Shenendehowa Central High School and furthered his education at Hudson Valley Community College from 1965 to 1967.
Ray dedicated much of his career to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in Albany, where his commitment to public service was evident. He was also a proud member of the Jonesville Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years, serving as Chief for four years in the early 1980s and as the former Deputy Coordinator of Saratoga County for Fire Car 4. His contributions to the community were significant, and his legacy will be remembered fondly.
In Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he most recently resided, Ray enjoyed tinkering with his vehicles and sharing good times with his long-time friends from the fire department. A reserved man, he had a playful side that emerged during moments of camaraderie with his close friends. His love for the outdoors was highlighted by his cherished memories of exploring hiking trails in Newcomb, particularly along the Moose Pond Horse Trail, where he often took his sons.
Ray is survived by his two sons, Jason (Melodie) of Virginia and Mark (Rebecca) of North Carolina. He was a loving grandfather to Kaylee, Ryleigh, and Molly Swann; and Liam and Julianna Crawford, each of whom brought immense joy to his life.
Raymond Francis Crawford will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community, whose lives he touched through his unwavering service and genuine spirit.
We'll plant real trees for you in Raymond's memory and display your contribution forever.
