Randy Eugene Howkins
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Randy Eugene Howkins, on January 19th, 2025 at 70 years old in Vernon, BC. Randy was born on January 30th, 1954 and was the middle child of three children. They were raised in Lumby, BC and area. Randy had many fond memories of growing up in the rural communities of Cherryville and Lumby. Many more memories with future generations of family and friends at the cabin or on the lake, many of which will not be forgotten as Randy never failed to make anyone smile or laugh, even sometimes until they cried.
Randy worked for Parks and Recreation for the Village of Lumby, BC for 32 years and was fondly remembered as the Zamboni guy. During these years he touches the many lives of those involved with the rink, from parents to coaches.
Randy met the love of his life, Annette, whom he married on December 31, 1993. Together, they tackled a journey filled with laughter, smiles, and experiences. Randy lived a life full of laughter and strength, leaving a mark on everyone he met.
As we move forward without him, we will draw strength from the resilience he embodied and the wisdom he shared, which will remain a source of inspiration. He has left behind a legacy that will continue to inspire others long after he is gone. Inspiration from memories shared together, through the laughter, the tears, and the moments of pure joy.
Randy’s dedication and strength were unmatched, and his contributions to the family are invaluable. His passing greatly saddens his friends and family, but they will remember that his spirit and memory will live on within them. They will keep his memory alive by living the life he would have wanted them to live, embracing the ups and downs, by loving fervently, and by spreading the love, kindness, and compassion.
Rest in peace to a beloved husband, father, grampa, brother, uncle and much more. A man who will be missed and remembered by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Randy was predeceased by his father, Eugene Howkins (1975); his mother, Florence Boring (2025); his sister, Lynn Sagenschneider (2013); and brother, Todd Howkins (2021).
He is survived by his lovely wife, Annette Howkins; ex-wife Tammy Howkins; two children, Terence and Ryan Howkins (Kelly); and five grandchildren (Terence) Brydon, Alyssa, and Daiten and (Ryan) Aurora and Merck. Randy was also a big part of Annettes family, his mother-in-law Shirley Grant, many sisters and brother in laws and their families. He was also a great uncle to many nieces and nephews. His presence left an unforgettable mark on each of their lives.
Randy looked forward to May long weekend when they would move out to the lake and enjoy sun and relaxation, friends and family and making new memories with his extended lake family.
May Randy’s new wings carry him to a place of eternal peace and joy, free from pain, where he will be reunited with loved ones who have passed before him.
A very special thank you to the nurses in ambulatory at the hospital and Dr. Friesen.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
We'll plant real trees for you in Randy's memory and display your contribution forever.
All condolences, notes and wishes in this book of memories.
