Patrick (Pat) Joseph Hickey peacefully passed away on May 22, 2024, at the age of 79. He was born to Tom and Celeste Hickey on December 29, 1944, in Monterey Park, CA and grew up in San Gabriel with his five siblings. He resided in San Dimas since 1975. 

Pat was a pioneer in the wastepaper recycling business in Los Angeles and capped a prolific 50-year career with his retirement in 2015. Retirement left Pat time to further pursue his lifelong passions of playing golf, watching baseball, and vacationing at the beach with his family.

While his career achievements were notable, Pat took the greatest pride in his family. In 1969, he married his wife Pam and started a loving and supportive home. Pat was the consummate provider, always focusing on his sons, Brian and Kevin. Ensuring a great education for his sons was a top priority for Pat and Pam, and both sons attended Damien High School (La Verne) and Pomona College (Claremont). One of Pat's proudest accomplishments was watching his sons excel academically and athletically. In their younger years, he took great pride in helping to coach their Little League baseball teams and, in their later years, was a dedicated sports fan from the sidelines, rarely missing a high school or college game despite an afternoon commute back from work in greater Los Angeles.

Pat was equally – if not more – proud of his grandchildren. Pat cherished the moments he spent with his six grandchildren – Cole (18), Luke (16), Jack (15), Quinn (13), Kate (13), and Lauren (11).

Pat is survived by his beloved wife, who stood by his side throughout his journey. They were married for a remarkable 54 years, showing that their devotion to one another stood the test of time. He is also survived by his sons, daughters-in-law (Christina and Anne), and six grandchildren.

Pat's defining personality traits of humility, kindness, honesty, and sincerity touched the lives of many. He was a man that lived his life with respect and acceptance of all others, and his family finds it hard to think of one person that would have an unkind word to say about him.

In addition to his professional work and his family, Pat served in Vietnam (Army), demonstrating his commitment to our country. He was also a man of strong Catholic faith, finding solace and guidance in his spiritual beliefs, and his family is quite sure the pearly gates were opened for him on May 22.

Family, friends and all others that spent time with Pat will remember him as a dedicated family man, a pioneer in his industry, and a humble and kind soul. While his absence will be deeply felt, his legacy will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched. May he rest in eternal peace.
