Otis Jordan, born on August 2, 1936, in Mossville, MS, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025, in Laurel, MS. A devoted family man, Otis is remembered for his immense love for his children and grandchildren, which he expressed as a superpower allowing him to nurture a large and loving family.
Otis dedicated most of his working life to International Paper, where he served from 1957 until his retirement in 1982. Throughout the years, he enjoyed simple pleasures, particularly his favorite foods from Church’s Chicken and Dorothy's dumplings. Music also held a special place in his heart, with Jackie Husband being among his favorite artists, often providing the soundtrack to his cherished moments.
A proud father of eleven children, Otis was married to Dorothy Beavers for twenty years, during which time they welcomed five children Otis Charles Jordan II, Janice Jordan, David Jordan, Barbara Jordan, and Doyle (Tonica) Jordan. He later embraced the joy of fatherhood again with seven additional children, including Beverly Jones, Phylis Sanders, John Lindsey, Stanley Smith, Ashley Wright, Neco, and Cedric Brown. He also adopted four of his grandchildren: Byron Bam Jordan, Timothy Lee Jordan, Dontavious Peanut Jordan, and Sanyah Marie Jordan.
Otis’s love extended beyond his family, as he was known for his community spirit, delivering meals for the Good Samaritan and actively giving his tithes, affectionately referred to as “his dues.” He found solace in the simple act of sitting on the porch in Currie, where he cherished some of his happiest moments.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Arcilla and Lackfus Jordan, his brother LV Jordan, and his beloved children Stanley Smith, Janice Jordan, Beverly Jones, and Otis C. Jordan II. Otis is survived by a vast, loving family that will carry on his legacy of love and kindness, including his children, grandchildren, and a series of beloved Chow Chow dogs that brought joy to his life.
Otis Jordan's life was a testament to the power of love and family, leaving behind memories that will be cherished by all who knew him.
